This lesson is about all about money in the United States! Students will learn more about the history and process of minting currency (money) in the U.S.!
Task
There are five main tasks to complete to help you learn more aobut currency:
1. Read about the history of five U.S. mints
2. Take a virtual tour of the coin making process
3. Find five fun facts to share with your classmates
4. Do a little exploring of your own to find out more!
5. Meet with your group to discuss what you learned today and share your fun facts.
Process

First, you will need to get the activity sheet from your teacher to fill out as you go on this learning adventure.
Now, go to this website to read about the United States minting facilities!
Now you are going to watch a video to see how coins are made. CLICK HERE!
If you click here, you can also see the steps laid out one-by-one.
Now, click here to look for five fun facts that you can share with someone else. This website has almost 100 facts to choose from, so don't just pick the first five you see!
Finally, look around this website a little more and see if there are any other facts about U.S. currency that interest you.
When your teacher calls the class back together, you need to meet with your group to discuss the things you learned in your lesson today, as well as share the five fun facts that you chose from the website.

As students learn about our country, the government, and many other topics in social studies, understanding the minting process is an interesting and valuable bit of knowledge for our students to obtain. We use money every day, and the way we use it is constantly changing. But one thing remains... everyone loves money!
