Human Body

Introduction

Hello and Congratulations in becoming residents at the CHOC Hospital!

For your final training and certification, you are going to take an amazing journey through the human body. You and 5 other doctors will explore how the magnificent body functions. The first stop will be in your patient's head. You will learn how their eyes, ears, nose and mouth allow you to be aware of your surroundings. Then, you will move to the circulatory system followed by the digestive system. Finally, you will end your journey by learning about the patient's muscular and skeletal system. Your group of doctors will chose one of the six systems and present to all other doctors (your classmates) the human body and the importance of each system.

Good luck Doctors!

Task

Doctors, you will get into groups of six. Each group member will choose one of the six systems to explore at the closer level.

The systems that will be explored is as follows:

  • Excretory
  • Digestive
  • Respiratory
  • Circulatory
  • Muscular
  • Skeletal

Using at least three sources, locate the information to present to all other doctors for approximately 10-15 minutes.

  1. Where is the system located?
  2. What is the significance of this system in the rest of the body?
  3. What are the primary organs in the system? What role does it play?
  4. Are there specific chemicals assoicated to this body system?
  5. Give 3 major characteristics of the system.
  6. Give 3 fun facts about this body system.

After your research, doctors can choose to present the information through a powerpoint, poster, model, newspaper, brochure, or a skit! Doctors, you can be creative in the ways you present! All options must be approved by your teacher and use technology during your project.

Process

The following instruction breaks the project down into three parts: Planning and research, Collaboration, and Presentation

I would recommend creating a timeline with due dates with your fellow doctors! You do not want to get behind :)

INSTRUCTIONS

Part 1: Planning and Research
  1.  Get into a team of 6 students.
  2.  Review the project with your team and have each member pick one system to research. I recommend assigning specific systems to each member rather than conducting the research together.
  3. Log into Google Docs and access your planning and guiding questions.
  4. Complete the planning guide together and turn in.
  5. Research your system and answer the guiding questions in the Task tab.  This will be turned in as a part of your grade.

We will have one week to complete your research, if you need further time together as a group, you will need to do some of it outside the classroom. Ask the computer lab or the librarian during your lunch, before and after school.

Part 2: Collaboration
  1.  After you have completed the research on your system, gather with your team.
  2.  Briefly discuss your system with your team.
  3.  As a group, create a graphic organizer or a flow chart describing how the systems work together to make your body work. (1 page summary max)
        * Once you have completed this portion, one person in the group will turn it in with names of all the members in the group.

Part 3: Presentation
  1.  Present to your fellow doctors (class) your integrated human body systems project. Present the human body and educate them about how the body works and ways to take care of it.  This should take approximately 10-15 minutes.
  2.  Determine what resources are needed to present your information.  Inform your teacher if you need any additional time or resources prior to presenting.
 3.  Put together your visual representation (We will have class time for your group to work on this).  Remember, all group members must participate and each system must be represented in the system.

*Remember to include pictures and labels of specific organs to refer to during your presentation.

*If you need help sounding out any words, find correct pronunciation prior to presentation.

Evaluation

Doctors, you will be graded on several components:

1. Topic overview- Guiding Questions --- 20 ponts
2. Research Sources & Works Cited --- 5 ponts
3. Summary of how your system relates to other systems --- 10 points
4. Presentation --- 10 points
5. Group participation --- 5 points

Conclusion

Congratulations graduates of residency!

Upon completion of this web quest, you should have a better and thorough understanding of the human body. You learned about the digestory, circulatory, muscular, skeletal, excretory, and the respiratory system through research and presentation  from your fellow doctors.

There is always more to learn. If you are looking for more to do, check out the nervous system and discover how the nerves in your body help your body!

Good luck on your doctoral journey!
