Introduction

This summer of 2016, the Xunta of Galicia is offering grants to students from all over the United States to go on “¡el camino de Santiago!” Take the challenge and follow “la concha” whether by foot, bike or horseback, on one of the five routes with other adventurous students for 4 weeks.
You will be assisting a counselor on one of the routes of your choosing. Candidates need to read and fill out the online application, then create and upload the brochure. Choose one of the following 5 routes to write an itinerary for your brochure: the Camino Frances, the Via de la Plata, the Northern Route, the English Road, or the Camino Portugues. The brochure should mention the student package at the discounted price of 300€ per person, which includes accommodation and food throughout the excursion (*Discount flights to Spain to be purchased separately through www.studentuniverse.com). Be sure to include the equipment and appropriate materials needed for this trip.
After completing the online application, you will be contacted via skype for an interview. Please be prepare to answer questions on the route you will be assisting and the brochure you’ve created. If chosen you will receive the student package for free, you will assist one of the routes, your brochure and video testimonial on will be uploaded to our website. Process
Day 1-2: Interpretive Tasks
- Article about “El Camino de Santiago”:

- Name one of the four pilgrimage groups that is mentioned in the text. What do these groups look for generally?
- The groups that would travel to Santiago, where were they from?
- For what reasons do people go on “el camino de Santiago” today?
-Why would “el camino de Santiago” be appealing to the youth of today?
Day 2-3: Interpersonal Tasks
- Students are given a handout with vocabulary on materials needed for a pilgrimage.
- In groups, students ask each other practice questions following a handout about materials needed for this pilgrimage (dialouge).
