Welcome Students!  You are about to embark into a wonderful world filled with multiplication.  As we close out our school year you are going to create fun-filled game activity.  Please read each link carefully, especially the task and process.

Performance Task

 You are going to design your very own multiplication board game.  Please keep in mind all of the wonderful things that we have learned in our multiplication unit while you are creating your game.  To refresh your memory, here are some of the standards that we have discussed:

  • Fluency
  • Arrays
  • Relating Addition to Multiplication
  • Relating Division to Multipliction
  • Groups Using Pictures

Be sure you that you read the process link very carefully.  This link will give you step-by-step instructions on how to complete this task.

Multiplication Board Game

 Using the supplies below, you are to create a multiplication board game.  Be prepared to have various groups test your game out.  Your game should include the following:

  • Colorful Creative Game Board
  • 20 Game Cards
  • 10 "Grab Bag" Questions (Trivia)
  • Thorogh Directions
  • 6 Game Markers

You will need the following materials to complete this task:

  • Construction Paper
  • 30 or more Notecards
  • Markers
  • Crayons
  • Scissors

Instructions:

1. Create a game board using construction paper or cardboard.  You may use the following website to get ideas on your game board:

2. Using the notecards write 20 multiplication problems on the front of the cards.  You must use the following:

  • 5 array problems
  • 5 repeated addition problems
  • 5 repeated subtraction
  • 5 flunecy problems

3. Using the remainding notecards, write ten "grab bag".  Examples that you can include are the following:

  • Loose a turn
  • Return back to start
  • Skip a space
  • Move forward five spaces

Please be creative with your grab bag questions.

4. Now, you are to complete your actual game pieces. Be sure your game pieces are in 3-D and they are able to free stand or you may use other objects.  Be creative!

5.  Create thorough step-by-step directions for your game.  You must be specific with your directions. 

6. Finally, test your game out.  Make sure you play a complete round of your game. Be sure to wrinkle out all of your kinks and your game is ready for others to play.
