It is found on the skin and scalp.

How it spreads

From person to person or from animals to people.

By touching a contaminated surface that an infected person or animal has recently touched or from skin-to-skin contact.

Symptoms of ringworm

Ringworm is typically scaly and may be red and itchy.

Ringworm of the scalp is common in children, where it may cause bald patches.

Some people may experience:

Skin: darkening of the skin, fissures, peeling, red rashes, or scaly patches Also common: hair loss or itchy scalp.
