Introduction
Hello Wonderful PYP5 Students!
The world is full of so many different types of environments or "major communities of the world". Hmm...what could Ms. Ross possibly mean? Well, dear students, it´s time for you to go on a hunt...a quest...to find out about the major communities. What are they? Where are they? What inhabits these places. It´s time to be researchers and thinkers. Your major clue is...BIOMES!
What are BIOMES?
Task
Your mission, PYP5 Super Researchers, is to work together with your partner to become an expert on BIOMES. You will use the links provided to complete independent research on the biomes of the world. Please pay close attention to the following:
-
- Time Management
- Effective pair work
- Goal setting and organization
- Detailed and descriptive content

Process
- Use the name sticks to determine which classmate you will be working with.
- Next, you and your partner will use the given websites to research about the various biomes around the world. If you want to "research level up " by using different sites, you may. However, you must start with the ones given.
- Choose 6 biomes (try to match the ones up on the wall in the classroom), and answer the following questions:
-
- What is a biome?
- What are the names of your biomes?
- What animals inhabit (live in) your biome?
- Where is your biome found (country and continent)?
- What is the climate of your biome?
- What vegetation (plants, flowers, crops, etc.) can be found in your biome?
- What are some interesting facts about your biome? Think about the Fun Facts activity we did in Unit 2.
- What adaptations do the plants and animals have to be able to survive in their biome? "Ms. Ross, what are adaptations?"...Well, guess what I am going to say, wonderful students? Did you guess..."research it"? If you did, then you are correct! Research! Research! Research! :D
4. Create a visual representation of your choosing to present your research. You can make a poster of any shape or design, Keynote, Book Creater presentation, etc. Be creative!!
Have Fun!!!!!
