The Cold War

Introduction

The Cold War was a war between the USSR and the US. No wars happened in either country, but that doesn't mean there wasn't wars that took place. There were many different wars or races that occurred, and the war itself was caused by and did many things. In doing this webquest, you will learn about each of these things. Essential questions that will be answered in this webquest are:

1. How did the Cold War effect the world?

2. Why did the Cold War end?

3. How was the war caused?

This map shows the alignment of the world and which countries were on what side during the Cold War.

Task

Task: Create a timeline of events before, during, and after the Cold War.

Directions: You will need to do the following to complete this webquest:

1. Read eight sources.

2. Summarize each of the sources. 

3. Create an outline of the timeline.

4. Make a final draft of the timeline.

5. Be sure to include the answers of the essential questions.

This website gives more information about the causes of the war. It uses different sources to give proof of each of the causes as well.

This website provides information about the effects or the war. It also includes information about the end of the war.

Process

1. Read eight sources (two with information on the causes, two with information on the end, two with information on the effects, and two with information on important events that occurred during). 80-90 minutes

2. Summarize each of the eight sources and include the main points that would be included within the timeline (include dates in summary). 40 minutes 

3. Create an outline of all of the dates and events in chronological order. Include a two sentence summary of each of the events. Be sure to mark where the war begins and ends because the timeline needs to cover more than that amount of time. 60 minutes 

4. Put the outline in an actual timeline form. Be sure to make it visually pleasing and neat. Also make sure to answer all of the essential questions. 20 minutes
