Introduction

Throughout this webquest, you will explore various events in history revolved around the Civil Rights Movement. You will explore these events and gather enough information about the leaders, reasons why they fought for the rights of African Americans and obstacles they faced along the way, in order to write a short work of historical fiction from the eyes of a child living during those times.
Task

You are a student in the south during the civil rights movement of the 1960's and you are excited by all these changes you see happening around you. You and your friends have decided to write a children's book about what you are experincing so that the children of the future will understand what happened during this time in history.
Process
Step #1:
- Begin by reading the following timeline overview of the Civil Rights Movement. After reading, complete the fill in the blank activity that follows.
Step #2:
Now that you have an idea of some of the events that took place during the Civil Rights Movement, you will look at some of them in more detail.
- Begin by reading about Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
- As you read, take notes on the corresponding activity page by answering the following questions:
- What did Rosa Parks do that made her a major person in the Civil Rights Movement?
- Why did the people of Montgomery decide to boycott all of the buses in the city?
