Introduction
The Cold War started in 1945 and ended in 1989. It was a period of political and military tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union. The rivalry between the U.S and the USSR heightened tensions and lead to a series of international disasters. Why did the United States get involved in the Korean War and was it unnecessary what they did? What happened during the arms race and how did it heighten the tension between the U.S and the Soviet Union? How did the rivalry between the two superpowers effect nations around them?
The space race was a competition between the USSR and the United States to see who could create the best technology to supreme in space flight capability.
The Korean War started when North Korea invaded South Korea. The US came to aid South Korea while the USSR came to help North Korea.
Task
Write an essay to explain the causes and effects of the Cold War and answer the essential questions.

4. Take notes on what happened in the major wars that took place (Korean war, arms race, Vietnam war, etc.) (25 minutes)
5. Write a 5 paragraph essay to answer the essential questions and explain why the United States did what they did and how it effected the world. Include your pictures. (45 minutes or more)
6. Create a works cited page with at least 3 websites and a 2 sentence summary for each. (15-20 minutes)
Evaluation
4 points- the student Answered all three essential questions and created an accurate 5 paragraph essay to help back up their answers, they gave accurate causes and effects of the war and gave their opinion (and evidence) on whether or not they felt the choices made, were right.
3 points- the student only answered 2 out of the three essential questions and did not fully include enough evidence in their essay. The student gave little causes and effects to support their essay and their opinions were not backed up with enough evidence.
2 points- the student answered 1 out of the three essential questions and included very little evidence in their essay. That student gave inaccurate to no causes and effects to support their essay and they did not give their opinion on the war.
0-1 point- the student answered none of the three essential questions and did not include any understanding and no evidence in their essay. The student did not review the causes and effects of the war and an opinion was never said. The overall essay was narrow and inaccurate.
