Introduction

         In this WebQuest you will use R.J. Palacio's novel Wonder as the main background text when thinking about the big issue, bullying.

Instructions:
Complete the tasks in order. Be sure to follow directions for each task and complete all assignments associated with the task BEFORE moving on to the next.

Task

Step 1: Visit this website.

This is R.J. Palacio's home page. On this page there are some of R.J. Palacio's frequently answered questions.

  • Read the sections
    • What inspired you to write Wonder?
    • This book has a strong anti-bullying message. Were you bullied as a child?
    • What character do you identify with the most or is the most like you?

Step 2: Look at these discussion questions. Pay attention to numbers 1,2 and 5 only. Do not answer them yet. Just read through them and ponder for about 2 minutes. 

Step 3: Statistics! Research statistics and gather no more than five.  

Step 4: Make a video! In your video you will include:

The answer to the question: 

  • What character do you identify with the most or is the most like you?
  • The answers to the discussion questions
  • The statistics that you found.
    • Turn in a copy of your bibliography to me or include this at the end of your video.

Step 1Visit R.J. Palacio's website .

Read The sections:

  • What inspired you to write Wonder?
  • This book has a strong anti-bullying message. Were you bullied as a child?
  • What character do you identify with the most or is the most like you?

Take time to read and think about each of these responses that R.J. Palacio gives. These may be elements that you want to include in your video. These are just questions to help spark ideas for your video.

Step 2: Look at the discussion questions. Pay attention to numbers 1, 2 and 5 only. Do not answer them yet. Just read through them and ponder for about 2 minutes. 

These will be questions that you will have to include in your video.  

Step 3Statistics! Research bullying statistics and gather two to five from the United States.  

Step 4Make a video! In your video you will include the answers to the discussion questions and your statistics.

Your video must be 5-7 minutes long. Your face needs to be distinguishable and voice coherent.

Personal bullying experience is optional for video!

Is your face distinguishable in the video? Does your video seem planned and well thought out? Is your voice clear, so that I can understand the information? Does it meet the required time length of 5-7 minutes?

Conclusion

What did you learn from this project?

Students will search through the web using multiple links supplied, so that they can develop ideas around the issue of bullying.

The students will develop a voice that is distinguishable and they will use video to talk about the vast issue of bullying.

The students will research statistics and use their past knowledege when looking for credible sources. 

Students will dig a little deeper into R.J. Palacio.
