Introduction

This is Jimmy, and he has just found out that he has chicken pox!
Jimmy is really scared because he doesn't know what chicken pox are, and his older sister, Jessica, has convinced him that it is going to turn him into a chicken!
Can you help to convince Jimmy that having chicken pox is not going to turn him into a chicken!?

Task
With your group, find out everything you can about chicken pox (which is also know as Varicella) and make a video to send to Jimmy to convince him that he is not going to turn into a chicken!
To do this, you will need to gather information about:
* What IS Chicken Pox?
* How do people get Chicken Pox?
* What are the symptoms?
* What can Jimmy expect to happen while he has Chicken Pox?
* What can he do to treat them?
* How long will it last?
* What should Jimmy's parents know about his chicken pox?
Do your research on the class iPads, them create a video message in iMovie that could be sent to Jimmy, explaining everything that you learnt! I am sure once he knows more about Chicken Pox, he will not be so scared!
Process
In pairs, use one iPad to research Chicken Pox. Take turns in looking up information and writing notes.
Use the following websites to help find out all the information you need:
http://www.rch.org.au/kidsinfo/fact_sheets/Chickenpox_Varicella/
http://www.immunise.health.gov.au/internet/immunise/publishing.nsf/Cont…
http://www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/wps/wcm/connect/Public+Content/SA+Health+…
http://conditions.health.qld.gov.au/HealthCondition/home/topic/14/217/v…;
Once you have gathered all of your research, work together to write a script, to make sure both people get to cover information in the movie. Take turns to address Jimmy and teach him all about chicken pox.
Things to consider - What would you like to hear when you are sick? What can Jimmy do to feel better? How long will he likely be away from school?
Once you have your script writen, take a few minutes to practice it, so you know what you are going to say, then it is time to fild your video message!
Set the iPad up on a table with the camera capturing both you and your partner (Ask Ms. Lennis to help, if you need too).
Film your message, then watch it back to make sure you have covered all the information you think is important.
Evaluation
You will be marked on:
*Your team work - How well do you and your partner work together to get the job done?
*Your research skills - How much information have you included? Is it all factual? Have you explained:
-How can you catch chiocken pox?
-How can you tell if you have it?
-How can Chicken pox be prevented?
-How can you treat it?
*Your presentation - Is your video persuasive? Do you think it will convince Jimmy that he will not turn into a chicken? Have you shown empathy and done a good job in making Jimmy feel better?
Conclusion
So what have you learned about Chicken Pox?
Do you think that your message to Jimmy will make him feel better about Chicken pox?
By completing this webquest, you should now know how Chicken pox are transmitted, prevented and treated.
By doing your own research you have had the oppurtunity to learn new facts!
