Introduction

Drugs are very powerful and some can be very dangerous if we misuse them. Scientists note that when we misuse drug it becomes not only dangerous to the mind and body of the person taking it but a lot to the persons around them.
Let us find out more about drug. Click on the link below:

So you would have found that:
A drug is any chemical which, when taken into the body, changes the way in which either the mind or body works. There are many reasons to take a drug into your body, some reasons are good while others are bad.
Drugs may be used as medicines or for recreational purposes.
Drugs as medicine

Drugs used as medicines are very important in maintaining and restoring human health and are prescribed by a doctor.
Recreational drugs

These are drugs that are taken into the body by choice and not as prescribed by a doctor. Some recreational drugs are socially acceptable while others are illegal.

Now it is time for you to explore these different types of drugs and how these can become harmful to the mind and body if misused.
Task
Hello Scientists!!!

Your task today is to find out about the different categories of drugs and research on the category and present a fact- based PowerPoint presentation with an incorporated poster showing strategies how to say 'No' to drugs.
Group ONE: Stimulants
Group TWO: Depressants
Group THREE: Hallucinogens
Your PowerPoint should also include: (try to use one slide per area)
- Title slide including topic, name, etc.
- Description of drug category
- Three examples of drugs classified in the category, giving alternative names where possible.
- Picture of each example and state how it is administered
- Immediate and long Term effect of each example listed on the body.
- Social and Legal consequences to using the drugs named.
- Reference slide

The poster should include pictures depicting:
- Effects of drug use on the body
- Two ways to avoid peer pressure and drug use.
- At least two positive alternatives to drug use
Process

Creation of the Presentation:
A PowerPoint presentation will be created about your assigned category of drug. Use the questions or suggestions listed above to use as your guide.
All presentations will be done in front of the class.

CONGRATULATINS SCIENTISTS!!!!
Through this web-quest you and your group members should have a better understanding of the the different categories of drugs and dangers that drugs can cause to individuals, including teenagers. You would have also been empowered to use warn others of the effects of drugs on the body and how to help persons say 'No' to drugs.
During the course of this web-quest:
- Have you learned some new and interesting facts about drugs that you did not know before?
- Do you feel that by working through this project you have a more healthy perspective on drug use?
- Do you think that others may also?
- Are you empowered to warn others of the effects of drug use on the body?
- Can you refer healthy alternative to drug use to others?

Teacher Page
This lesson focuses on drugs and drug abuse and is aimed at helping students understand the types of drugs and how abusing these can affect an individual.
The lesson is ideal for a Grade 10 class pursuing such content in Science.
As such, the objectives of this lesson include the following:
- Classify types of drugs, giving examples of each.
- Discuss the effects of different drugs on the body.
- List some physical, emotional, social and legal consequences of abusing drugs.
- Develop strategies to say 'NO' to drugs.
The class will be placed in three (3) groups and given a catergory of drug to research on (Stimulants, Depressants or Hallucinogens).
For the selected category each group is to research on the category and present a fact- based PowerPoint presentation with an incorporated poster showing strategies how to say 'No' to drugs.
Teacher should encourage cooperative work and provide students with adequate time to complete and present the project.
Teacher should grade students' work based on the information provided in the Evaluation srction of this webquest.
