What Do Plants Need?

Introduction

Hello Class!

Springtime is here! What is your favorite part of Spring? Is it the birds chirping? Maybe it's the rain pitter-pattering on your window, it could also quite possibly be the warm, sunny days. My favorite part of Spring is seeing the flowers bloom! Daisie, Lillies, Carnations, Roses, I love them all! Do you know why flowers bloom in Spring and not in Winter? The nutrients plants need to grow are found in the Springtime. Do you know exactly what plants need to grow? Let's find out!

Task

Our goal is to explore what nutrients plants need to grow. It is important that we realize the importance of plants in our environment. However, first, we need to gain an understanding of how a plant comes to be. You will first learn a song that will teach you the names of the nutrients plants need. You will then create artwork showcasing what you have learned. The artwork will demonstrate your understanding of the nutrients. Finally, you will plants seeds of your own to put growing a plant into practice.

Process

We are ready to start exploring plants!

Here are your directions:

1. You will learn a new song to the familiar tune of "Are You Sleeping?" (a song you learned in music class last week). I will recite the words for the "What Do Plants Need?" song. Once you have learned the song, you are ready for the next step.

2. Once you have learned "What Do Plants Need?", you will create a piece of artwork (painting, drawing, collage). There are no restrictions on how you create your artwork. The only requirement is having the different nutrients labeled in your artwork.

3. Once you have created your labeled artwork, you will watch two short videos that further explain the needs of hte plant.

4. Once you have watched the videos, you will plant your own seeds and observe how and what they need to grow.
