Introduction
Welcome 9th grade students,
In this webquest you will learn all about polynomials. By the end you will understand how to add, subtract, multiply and divide polynomials, while also being able to identify what the graph of one looks like.
To begin the webquest, click on the task tab!

A1.AAPR.1* |
Add, subtract, and multiply polynomials and understand that polynomials are closed under these operations. (Limit to linear; quadratic.) |
Task
By the end of this webquest you should know how to do these things:
- Add Polynomials
- Subtract Polynomials
- Multiply Polynomials
- Divide Polynomials
-Print the Process tab before you begin the webquest. Once you have it printed, as you complete the process, answer the questions under each topic. The questions are highlighted in green.
Process

1. What is a Polynomial?
.
-Polynomials can have 3 things, , , & .
- In the space below, give me an example of what a polynomial looks like.
-In the space below, give me an example of an expression that is not a polynomial.
Go to Math is Fun-Adding/Subtracting Polynomials (click on the link). Make sure to know how to do these things after reading this section:
***MAKE SURE TO WATCH THE ANIMATIONS
1. Adding Polynomials
-When adding Polynomials, you combine like terms. Like terms have the same .
2. Subtracting Polynomials
- When subtracting polynomials, you start by Reversing the signs of each terms? TRUE or FALSE (Circle One)
Go to Math is Fun- Multiplying Polynomials (click on the link). Take notes and answer the questions below.
-Solve the problem: 2x(4x+y)
Answer:
Go to Math is Fun- Dividing Polynomials (click on the link). This is a harder section so make sure to take good notes and watch all of the animations!!!
-What is the answer to the first Example in the method section? Write down the problem and solve below.
Answer:
-What is the answer to the second example in the remainder section? Write down the problem and solve below.
Answer:
Extra Credit:
If you are still struggling to understand polynomials, visit the link below at KHAN academy and answer the question below.
-In the Adding Polynomials:two variables section, write down and solve example 5 below.
*You have completed the webquest on polynomials. Please make sure you fully understand how to evaluate these expressions.
Evaluation
In order to make sure you did this, I will be evaluating each of you based off of the questions you answered in the process tabs.
*The real evaluation will take place next class when you take a quiz to make sure you did not copy anyones answers. You will have a quiz, so make sure YOU completed the assignment. I will know who didnt take the time when i grade your quizzes.
Conclusion
After completing the webquest make sure you have:
1. Understanding of how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide polynomials.
2. The printed process section with the answers to the questions so you can turn them in to me next class.
3. Prepared yourself for the quiz next class. If you completed this assignment, you know there is a quiz next class, prepare yourself.
*** Thanks for taking the time to complete this lesson. Make sure to bring your notes to class and be ready to discuss what you learned in this section.
Thanks,
Mr. Corn
