Romeo and Juliet Webquest

Introduction

Welcome to the Romeo and Juliet Webquest for 9th grade.  Today you will compete against fellow classmates in a Family Feud challenge on Romeo and Juliet, but first you will need to study up and prepare for the challenge.  This challenge will be an indication of the knowledge you have of the current state of the play.

STEP 1: Click on the link  "Task" at the top.

You will begin this webquest by pairing up with a fellow classmate that is on your side.  Montague's must pair together and Capulet's must pair together.  Everyone has been assigned a character in Romeo and Juliet and now you will be tested on your knowledge of the feuding families.

This webquest will help you to apply prior knowledge in order to answer comprehensive questions to prepare you for your final.  You will also be able to demonstrate your understanding of the text by interpreting the author's intentions done through a short essay response.

STANDARD 2: READING FOR ALL PURPOSES

  1. a. Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze in detail its development over the course of the text, including how it emerges and is shaped and refined by specific details; provide an objective summary of the text. (CCSS: RL.9-10.2)
  2. Analyze how complex characters (e.g., those with multiple or conflicting motivations) develop over the course of a text, interact with other characters, and advance the plot or develop the theme. (CCSS: RL.9-10.3)

STANDARD 4: RESEARCH AND REASONING

  1. Integrate information from different sources to research and complete a project.

STEP 2: Click on the link called "Process" at the top and follow the instructions!

Process

1. First, take out one sheet of paper for your group and write which side of the feud you are on at the top.  You will be answering questions from the play on this sheet of paper.  Then review the character list provided at the link below.  Jot down the characters on your sheet of paper. Write #1 next to your list.

2. Next, read through the plot overview at the link provided to refresh your memory. Once you have finished reading the overview click on the link at the bottom of the overview that says, "Quick Quiz".  Write #2 on your paper and write down your score from the quiz.

3. Next, you will take a multiple choice quiz with your partner found at the link below.  Answer the questions online, but also write down your answer on your sheet of paper.  Write #3 on your paper and you can just write the question number and letter of the answer as you go through the quiz.  Once you submit the quiz it will tell you which ones you got right or wrong.  Write your score at the top of your paper and circle it, no cheating!

4. Individually, all other tasks will be done in your group, each student will answer this question, "Would the family feud have ended if Romeo and Juliet had not died? Why or why not? What do you think would have happened between Romeo and Juliet?".  This will be your exit ticket. Again, each student must answer this question on his/her own and turn in at the end of class.

5. Finally, the real feud will begin.  Answer the questions with your partner, located below, based on the information you have just studied as well as the knowledge you have already from the play.  You will have to give the answer that is most likely to be correct.  You will write your answers on your sheet of paper.  Please number your answers.  You do not have to write in full sentences, just provide the correct response.

Evaluation

You will be evaluated on:

5 points - Character List (organized in a usable manner) - Group

5 points - Completion of Quick Quiz (with results noted on your paper) - Group

10 points - Completion of Multiple Choice Quiz (make sure you write your score at the top of your paper and the letter to the answers you chose) - Group

10 points - Completion of Family Feud Questions - Group

* Remember, this is a group webquest so both members must participate in order to receive credit.

12 points - Answers correct to Family Feud questions (worth one point each) - Group

*I will calculate the overall score from Family Feud and announce the winners next class period.  Will it be the Capulet's or the Montague's?

8 points - Recommend an alternate ending that is relevant based on short answer question. - Individual

This webquest was created to prepare you for the final exam on Romeo and Juliet.  You should now have a clear understanding of the characters, plot overview, setting, and theme.  You will apply all of this knowledge to your upcoming final.
