Introduction
You and your peers are isolated in a hostile 3rd world country called Limnadia. The nearest friendly nation (Freedonia) is 50 miles away. The options of mode of travel are Road, River, Forest, Desert, or Mountainous terrain. The road is simple to navigate and follow, yet is offers high risk of being spotted by the populace. The river is also somewhat easy to navigate but leaves you exposed and vulnerable. The forest is more concealed but is difficult to navigate. The Desert offers a more direct route but leaves your group exposed to the elements. The mountains may be easy to evade and hide however are more difficult to ascend and could slow your return. You need to return to Freedonia via the safest route that offers the most concealment from hostile enemy forces and weather elements while being able to procure food and water. This is all accomplished utilizing the limited survival items you have available.

Task
Your Group has three tasks to complete in order to successfully travel to Freedonia unharmed
1: Determine a route that provides the safest and most efficient means of travel
- Assess the fictional Map as a group. Ensure map orientation is understood; Point A [Hostile territory] & Point B [Friendly nation]
- Assess the pros and cons of each route
2: Present your findings:
- Show your reasoning behind your group’s decision
- Show your process of elimination
3: List the survival items in order of importance for your chosen mode of travel
- 10 being least important, number 1 being most important
- Present logic on why these items are important and their use

Process
1: Divide into groups of 5 people each (do not segregate by age, gender, experience, or background)
2: Read, and reread the task for this WebQuest
3: Use the websites available to asses which survival scenarios offer the best information for selecting your method of travel
4: Use the above process (step 3) in conjunction with the attached list of survival items to generate the best use of resources with best route. Each group will consider each member’s real life limiting factors such illness and disabilities. In addition, skills may also be incorporated into the scenario such as navigational skills, hunting & camping experience etc…
3: As a group, choose your method of travel from the left of map where Routes begin. An abandoned car is available for the Road. An abandoned boat is available for the River (remember, you may need gas).
5: Logically asses which route you will endure and what survival items you will use (and how). Determine how long your journey will take. This will be accomplished by writing a 250 word (or more) summary of your decision.

- Newspapers (one per person)
- Cigarette lighter (without fluid)
- Extra shirt and pants for each survivor
- 20 x 20 ft. piece of heavy-duty canvas
- An air map made of plastic
- Some whiskey
- A compass
- Family-size chocolate bars (one per person)
- Any/all things each member has on their person right now
Evaluation
Your team’s decision will be evaluated on a scale of 1-5 for different criteria.

Conclusion
Regardless of your grade. You are encourage to reflect on what you learned. This learning is not restricted to survival skills, rather you can reflect on your team building skills, recognizing group dynamics, and using the skills of others. Ask yourself; What strengths have I discovered? And, What areas of interpersonal dynamics do or do not work for me and could use improvement? Lastly, are there skills and talents outside of camping and hunting that contributed to this project, what are they?
