Introduction
Where did math come from?
Who invented math?
What do famous Mathematicians have to do with the math we learn today?
This webquest is going to help answer questions like these. By researching and learning about a famous matematician you will have a better understanding of the beginnings of math and how it affects the math you learn today.
Task
Before you get started you will need to create a folder on your iPad to save all your document to. Title the folder FIRSTNAMELASTNAMEPERIOD
1. You need to select a mathematician from the following list. If you would like to choose a mathematican no on this list, please check with me first.
- Sir Issac Newton
- Archimedes
- Leonard Euler
- Benjamin Banneker
- Hypatia
- Johm Nash
- Pythagoras
- Leonardo Pisanot Fibonacci
- Galileo Galilei
- Euclid of Alexandria
- Aristotle
- Blaise Pascal
- Carl Friedrich Gauss
- Grace Hopper
- Ptolemy
- Rene Descartes
- Charles Babbage
- Albert Einstein
- Marjorie Lee Browne
- Mary Lucy Cartwright
- Eratoshenes
- Ada Lovelace
- Pierre De Fermat
- Katherine Johnson
- Annie Easley
2. You must research your famous mathematician.
3. You must make a presentation using one of the following presentatioln software: Keynote, Prezi, or doceri. Please include pictures to improve the look of you presentation. The presentation must in clued the flowwing information:
- Title Page (which includes; title, Mathematicians name, Date of birth and death, and my name, your period)
- Childhood (Where and when your mathematician was born? Information about your mathematician as a child and about her/his family, Her/his early education (before college), How her/his childhood may have affected her/his math career.
- Education (Where did your mathematician get her/his education as a young adult and also into adulthood? What was her/his education like? How did her/his educaton affect her/his math career?
- Adult Life (How did your mathematician's adult life include math? What were some ofher/his accomplishments in math? Was you mathematician famous for anything outside the world of math?
- How The World Has Been Affected (How did your mathematician's accomplishments affect other mathematicians? Did she/he have any famous inventions or math formulas? How did her/his work in math affects us today?
- Cited Works (List a links to the different websites that you used in this project)
- Save video to your folder.
4. Create a digital media presentation using iFunFace or iMovie (Work in Groups of 2):
- In an interview format record a live interview inwhich one person acts as the Mathematician and the other acts as the interview.
- Prepare 5 questions that the mathematician needs to answer.
- Record your iFunFace or iMovie
- Save video to your folder.
Process
Follow the process below to complete this assignment.
1. Use the internet to research your mathematicians. DO NOT USE WIKIPEDIA. Once you find a mathematicianto research, make sure you can find enough information to complete the assignment.
Important Information to Look For:
- Date of birth and death
- Place of birth and where your mathematician wasw raised
- Educatiom
- Accomplishments that make this mathematician famous
- How this mathematician's work affected other mathematicians
- How this mathematician's work affects things today
- Did your mathematician have any famous inventions
- Famous quotes by your mathematician
- Anything else you find relevent, interesting, or important about your mathematician
These are some good sites to use, but feel free to explore more sites on your own.

Digital Interview Presentation
Your score for you Interview will be determined by me. The interview is worth 50 points. Have fun and be creative but remember, the interview is about providing informations to your classmate not make the laugh!
Conclusion
Conclusion
Now that you have researched a mathematician you should not only have a better understanding of your mathematician, but you should also have a better understanding of where the math that we learn today came from. You will get to hear about many more mathematicians when we view your classmate’s presentations. Remember the skills you used in this webquest for future research projects and as you get older and take different math classes think about how they are influenced by the mathematicians you learned about in this project.
