Introduction
The fantastic volcanic webquest...
That will permit you to become an expert on volcanoes!
What is a Volcano?
A volcano is a mountain that extends down to a pool of magma between the crust and mantle. It's basically a hole in the Earth from which magma can erupt. The name "volcano" comes from the name of the Vulcan, a god of fire in Roman mythology.

How do Volcanoes form?
Deep inside Earth, between the molten iron core and the thin crust at the surface, there is a solid body of rock called the mantle. When rock from the mantle melts, moves to the surface through the crust, and releases pent-up gases, volcanoes erupt. Extremely high temperature and pressure cause the rock to melt and become liquid rock or magma. When a large body of magma has formed, it rises through the denser rock layers toward Earth's surface. Magma that has reached the surface is called lava.

Task
Task
It is now time to get your mind bubbling and have your brains erupt with knowledge!
We are going to start with watching a couple of fun and exciting videos about volcanoes! Pay attention though, because after you will be labeling and coloring your very own magma-ificent volcanoes!

- Now, team up with another student to vent, and let your imaginations flow.
Process
After you partnered up with one of your classmates, you will have to do different activities in order to learn about volcanoes as much as you can and to become a master volcanist!
1. First, your teacher will open these helpful videos for you. You will have to watch them carefully:
&
2. Then, you will print the volcano above and you will work with your partner to label every part of the volcano using the videos you watched earlier (don't worry, you have a word bank to help you during this exercise).
3. Finally, you will color in your volcano with the color you think will match the most, so it can be your very own one.

Evaluation
After watching the videos and completing the exercise, you all should be oozing with knowledge...
Let's see how much you know!
|
If you got all 7 correct you've become a: |
Master Volcanist!![]() |
| If you got between 4 and 6 correct you are a: |
Master Geologist!
|
| If you got less than 4 correct |
Geologist in Training!
|
Conclusion
Congrats everyone!

You've earned 2 thumbs up for all of your hard work!
Hopefully everyone has learned something from the videos in your quest to become a MASTER VOLCANIST!
You never know, one day all of your knowledge could erupt and you could become a real geologist!
