Introduction
Today you are going to discover what it takes to be a Meterologist. You might say " Mrs. Lee, we haven't learned what a Meterologist does." Well, a Meterologist is a scientist who studies the atmosphere and its changes in order to predict the daily weather to inform us.
How would you like to attend an outdoor picnic in the rain? Wouldn't you like to know when a severe storm is coming? We get this information from television news casts, listening to the radio, reading the daily newspapers, and tuning into a weather channel.
Task
Today you will research each of the six topics below: Weather VS. Climate, Air Pressure, Humidity, Air Masses, Fronts, and Severe Weather.
Working with a partner, you need to complete the weather note taking sheet( Mrs. Lee will pass these out to you), which has each of the seven topics broken down into a section box with important questions that a Meterologists needs to know the answers to.
You need to do your best work because you will be using this information tomorrow for a very important project.
Process
First Step: Background Information:
What is the difference between weather and climate? How do air pressure, humidity, and other factors affect our local weather?
Explore the links on each subject. These links are important because they will provide basic information about the topic as a whole. Everyone should explore these sites before starting your Task. Take notes on your Weather WebQuest Notes sheet as you explore these sites. The notes you take will be the basis for your very important project tomorrow.
Here are a couple of really good sites with general weather information that you may want to look at before you look at the sites for your topic:
