INTRODUCTION TO POWER FUNCTIONS VIDEO:
What is a Power Function?
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Giu9tk6H6I]
Task
In this WebQuest, you will learn about Power Functions (most of them you already know). Youll learn the different types of Power Functions (even powers, odd powers, power of 0, power of 1, negative powers, and fractional powers), other names for certain Power Functions (like linear, quadratic, etc.), transformations of Power Functions (rotations, reflections, translations, etc.), and various other aspects of Power Functions.
You will need to read all directions very carefully. You will also need to read the evaluation page before you get started; this will tell you how I will grade your work. I will have printed handouts for the 2 investigations for you to organize your notes and responses on. These handouts are only to help you organize your notes and results and they will not be handed in to me. Again, these are only to help you organize your results.
Process
Your task is to create an electronic presentation of your investigative findings. Your presentation can be whatever format you choose: KeyNote, PowerPoint, Prezi, etc. (as long as I can open it, you can create it). Your investigative findings must include ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:
1. All of the summarized and detailed results of the Power Function Investigation (from the handout)
2. Pictures of all types of Power Functions and their alternate names (i.e. linear, quadratic, etc.)
3. The domain and range of each type of Power Function (even power, odd power, etc.) using the Domain and Range Finder Tool
4. All of the summarized and detailed results of the Transformations of Power Functions Investigation (from the handout)
Transformations of Power Functions GeoGebra
5. Your conclusion and additional information you learn about Power Functions along the way.
Again: please make sure you review the evaluation rubric on the evaluation page so that you will know exactly what is expected of you in your presentation.
