5. Lack of cooperation/ no cooperation will result in a decreased/no grade once reported. Complaints must be made three (3) days before the assignment is due.
6. Create a video, as earlier stated and use appropriate props. Any additional props deemed necessary must be requested in writing two (2) days before receiving it from the lab.
7. Each student must then present another video, verbally stating the importance of their role and how crucial it is to understand, as well as remember what was taught in order to put it into action.

If you successfully followed your task and roles
Congratulations!
You saved several lives today!
I anticipate that you now have an idea of how to apply theory to real life situations. Also, it is hoped that you have an understanding of what to expect for your 'megacode' at the end of this course. Remember, practice makes perfect and someone's life is in your hands!
Are you capable?

Introduction
This lesson was created as a part of the Education Learning Technology- EDU 301 class.
The purpose of this lesson to allow students to understand the importance of relating what was learned in theory and be able to successfully apply it to real life, yet orchestrated, situations.
Learners
This course was developed for nursing students of all levels. Why? All nursing students are required to be CPR and First Aid certified upon entering nursing school. This lesson can be adjusted to other forms of healthcare scenarios. Students are required to think critically and quickly from beginning to end. Therefore, they must first ensure the scene is safe, arrange for EMS personnel to be called in the early stages of the emergency and stabilizing the patients until the arrival of EMS. The call involves giving the dispatcher all relevant information so they can also be properly equipped to attend to the scene, with sufficient teams to handle the situation.
Curriculum Standards
Bystander Med Team Standards Addressed
- Assessing a scene and situation fully, yet critically before acting
- Demonstration of proper assessment skills
- The importance of a properly stocked first aid kit
- The importance of understand lessons and attempting to apply them to real life situations.
- Understand that every second counts.
- Maintain a therapeutic nurse-patient relationship in all circumstances.
- Understanding and focusing on priority of a patient’s need and which patient is priority over another.
- How to work in a team.
- Putting into action all values, beliefs and ethical principles in the situation.
- Thinking critically overall.
Process
Recreate the scene to the best of your ability and try your best using medical knowledge to stabilize these patients until EMS arrives. Each nurse will have a very simple first aid kit consisting of:
Sterile Gauze pads (4 inches) x2
Nonlaxtex gloves (medium) x2

Students may have an idea that an assignment is simple and enjoyable by working with their friends/colleagues; however, sometimes it makes it more challenging. This is why students were allowed to select their own group members, even though it more than likely will not occur in the real world. CPR and First aid requires a day to be taught, but, this self-made simulation provides the students with a criterion that will prepare them for an even larger and uncontrollable scene for their final assessment. This is a basic lesson that only requires fluent knowledge of CPR and First aid.
Variations
This lesson can be performed during class time, providing a time limit to each group. It can also be carried out in a lab or even as a true simulation whereas, the lesson is setup in a parking lot or abandoned area that will act as the scene.
Resources Needed
- First aid kit
- Recording equipment or cellular device
- Computer- for uploading
- Lab/ Scene (optional)
- Email for students to submit their questions. All group members should be attached to email.
Evaluation
Successful completion of this lesson means that:
- Students analyzed the scene
- Properly assessed patients
- Roles were carried out efficiently
- Maintained a nurse-patient relationship
- Patients were stabilized as much as possible
- Adequate information was disseminated to dispatchers
- Students were able to think critically with whatever resources that had
Conclusion
Students will utilize this lesson for a grade and as practice for their final assessment. It will force them to think critically and apply what they have learnt. Cohesiveness will be understood to be a key component as well as utilizing what literal materials they may have. Students are becoming more and more dependent on technology; therefore, this out of hospital experience will provide a slight wakeup call and force them to be analytical.
