Process

The Process

Congratulations! Your basketball team has been chosen to compete in the NCAA Division I basketball tournament in March. As officials from your school, you are responsible for making the final preparations for this exciting journey. There will be three roles for you to choose from: Athletic Director, Statistician, Public Relations Director, and Assistant Coach.

  • First you'll be assigned to a team of ideally three students.
  • As a team, you will be assigned a basketball team that is participating in the NCAA Division 1 tournament.
  • Each student will choose at least one of the three roles. You will be responsibile for the tasks that are outlined for each position.
  • After each role has completed their task, your original group will come back together to complete the final project.

Below you will find your role. Click on the basketball in front of your role to continue.

As AD, your role is to make the travel arrangements for your team. You will need to make airline and hotel reservations.

First you will need to determine the cities in which your team will be playing. To do this first you need to find if your team is in the West, East, Midwest, or South Regional.

1.) Click on the basketball below to get this information.

2.) Click on the map below to find the location of the sites for the 1st & 2nd round games, the regional site, and the final four site.

Next you will need to find the cost of airline tickets for your team to a.) the 1st and 2nd round game site b.) to the regional site c.) to the final four site. Each of these will need to be from your school city. Click on the airplane to find this information.

When you find your airline costs, click on these tickets to record your findings. You will need to purchase 36 tickets for the players, coaches, cheerleaders, etc.

You will want to MAKE a COPY of this form and save it in your DRIVE with your team name. Then provide sharing and editing rights to your team members and Mrs. Holden.

Your next job is to find the cost of the hotels for each city in which your team will be traveling. Click on the hotel to find the cost per night per room.

When you find the hotel costs, you need to record the information on the same sheet in your Drive that you recorded the information for airline costs.

Each person will be sharing a room with with one other person. You will need the rooms for 4 nights for the 1st and 2nds round games, 4 nights for the regional games, and 3 nights at the Final Four site.

When you have completed the table of costs for room and board for your team, you need to print a final copy. This will be attached to your group poster.

Conclusion

CONCLUSION

I hope your team showed character and good sportsmanship as they progressed in the NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament. Perhaps they even made it to the Final Four of the NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament. As the Athletic Director, Statistician, and Public Relations Director for your team, the preparations for the trip are now complete.

Your group should have completed a poster that included the airfare and hotel costs, a comparison of your team's stats and the stats from last year's final four teams, a page about your school for the program, and a possible tournament bracket with your predictions.
