Introduction
You are a young explorer in Africa. We are on a journey to discover the wildlife in the great African plains. On this safari, we will examine and explore that animal behaviors may be shaped by heredity and learning. We are looking to see where the animals get their habits from and how they obtain food. We must first understand that a lot of the animals that we will observe live in a hot and dry climate. Animals, including humans, cannot make their own food and that when animals eat plants or other animals, the energy stored in the food source is passed to them. We can use this information to see and understand the animals eating cycles.
Task
- You are a young explorer in the great East African continent. You must decide, with your team, how you will travel. Where you will sleep at night, how long your journey will be. Research and observe the animals sleeping cycles and how they obtain their food. What special characteristics do the animals have that help them to survive in the desert heat? I want you to observe two animals of your choosing. Please choose different ones (for example: a snake and an elephant).
Process
- You will need to provide proper and correct information by looking up the wildlife that you would find in Africa. All of your research should be realistic and accurate. Make a chart of your finding and keep a week journal for your journey. You will need to turn in your journal and also write a summary (or make a chart) to properly document your journey. Please utilize these websites to get you started:

- iii. Uses pictures that can be found on google to use for your project. Include at least two and they can be printed or drawn.
Evaluation
- You and your partner will link up together to complete the assignment. During your presentation, you will share your findings and research with the class. I want you to be creative. You can use a poster board or have pictures to show the class. Anything that you do to add to the project will be rewarded with 5 points extra credit.
- You journal is worth 75% of your grade and the presentation will be worth 25%
Conclusion
- After completing this project, you should have a better understanding and a broader view of the wonderful and interesting animals that can be found across Africa.
