Introduction
Since Radio Plays are based soley in sound, ways had to be devloped to use sound to enhance the story telling by creating effects that supported and helped create an image of what was occuring in the story.
This included back ground sound (ambient sound), character actions, and objects being used.
Through this task you will find out what Foley is, examples of how it is used, and its history.

Task
Your task will be to create a sound effect cue sheet based on the script you are working on for your final radio play performance.
As well as answer the questions on the handout.

Process
1.) Watch the following video and answer the questions #1 - 4 on the worksheet.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Jznye0iqYE (Introduction to Foley and Sound Effect for Film)
2.) Read the following article and answer questions #5 - 7 on the worksheet.
http://www.old-time.com/sfx.html (Sound Effects)
3.) Here is the complete video of a clip demonstrated in the previous video. Answer questions # 8-10.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZ43UC5tIOY (Amazing Short Film on Old Time Radio Sound Effects: "Back of the Mike" (1938)
4.) On the back side of your work sheet is an example sound cue sheet for a show. You are to create your own cue sheet for the radio show you will be performing in on friday.
Each memeber of the group will submit their own sheet. Write in pencil as you will change it over the week.
Evaluation
The worksheet and the cue sheet will be marked based on completion.
The work sheet is to be handed in by the end of the class.
The cue sheet is due after your performance because you will change it and adjust it as you rehearse your radio play.
Conclusion
Hopefully you have enjoyed learning about the devlopment of sound design and effects. Once you have completed your work sheet you may work on your cue sheet.
Once you have a rough version of the que sheet you may begin collecting sound effects and ideas.
You can create the sound effects through foley work or use downloaded sound effects.
If down loading effects, email them to your self, or place them in the share file, so that you will have them when rehearsing in the drama room, or you might be able to download them onto your phone.
I would suggest organizing your effects in order on a play list.
You will have a chance tomorrow to decide which sounds effects to use for your performance.
