National Landmarks Second Grade

Introduction

Welcome to the National Landmark Webquest!

You will explore what makes our country special and great!

You will work in groups and have a job!

You will choose a project to complete at the end of your research!

Let's get started!

Task

Here are your tasks:

You may choose one of the following:

1. An injured bald eagle needs a place to live.  He has a hurt wing and cannot fly. Design a new zoo habitiat that would be appropriate for this bald eagle.

2. We need to hang the American flag. Design a pole/tower from paper or another material from your teacher that can hold the American flag high.

3. The Liberty Bell needs a new platform to hang from. Design a platform from straws that will hold your Liberty Bell.

Process

Here are the steps to follow for this activity. Make sure you go in order.

1. Get in your group! Make sure everyone has a job. Here are the jobs.  Reader, computer searcher, time manager, and everyone will be a writer!

2. Get your social studies notebook or assignment sheet from your teacher.

Let's start with the Liberty Bell:

Let's go look at the American flag:

Let's go look at the bald eagle:

2. go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qveV7SG9LrM and watch the video to answer questions #15-18.

Now choose your project!

Evaluation

1. Make sure to turn in your worksheet with the answers complete to your teacher!

1. Make a list of the materials you used

2. Draw and label a diagram of your design

3. Be ready to present to the class your design and why it is valuable. Make sure to include why you chose those materials, how you built it, and why it will work.

Conclusion

Great job! You just researched 3 of our national symbols. You also became and engineer and designed items to help each one!

If you are interested in more, research the Statue of Liberty, The National Anthem, or some US presidents.
