To see my students display such passion in this class makes me love teaching a whole ot more. I would be excited to see them pursue a future in the culinary industry as I can see the potential in many at such an early start.

What is a WebQuest?
Dr. Bernie Dodge orignated this WebQuest model at the San Diego State University in February in 1995. WebQuest is simply combining education and technology together in a way where it captures students imagination and allow them to explored information is a guided manner. This online learning tool a simple word processing for teachers helping them create lesson plans that includes links to websites.
What are the benefits of WebQuests?
With kids having access to the World Wiide Web and being advance in using technology, using WebQuest in the classrooms is sufficient for creating a "solid foundation" that is useful in students future adventures. Some of the benefits for using WebQuest may include:
- Making learning useful when using real life contexts.
- Students learn to work among their peers.
- Students are given an early start of making their own choices.
- The model broadens their research skills and helps them find and evaluate information more clearly.
How did WebQuests start, and how have they developed since they became popular?
Dr, Bernie Dodge establish the model in spring of 1995 when he was lecturing to a class of perspective teachers. He felt the need to provide his students with an application to create online lessons that was not only a creative way for students to learn, but also an online application for students to develop high level thinking skills with the use of technology. Futhermore, the growth and development of the model has been maturing well ober the years. Many teachers include this model in their lesson plans and often find it sucessfull. Teachers all over the world are using this model including teachers in The Bahamas. For example: http://questgarden.com/118/49/2/110206051128/t-process.htm, is a link a Queens College teacher created.
What are the essential parts of a WebQuest?
There are six components that are important when constructing a WebQuest. These essential parts include the:
- Introduction: explains what is needed from the students in a way that is exciting to the students. In this section the learning goals is requested and students are given roles for certain scenarios.
- Task: a precise description of what is needed of the students to complete their assignment.
- Process: a list of steps students must accomplish to complete the task and links can be added in each step.
- Evaluation: a rubic that is design to evaluates the students work.
- Conclusion: this section is for telling the students how well they did or giving them advice to improve their work.
- Resources/Credits:a list of links that can be an aid to students for them to complete their tasks. This can include Web sites, print resources, books etc.
What kinds of topics lend themselves to WebQuests?
The WebQuest is not best for teaching the times table or chemical symbols, but it is essential when a teacher wants her students to become creative with their work and when there is more than one possible solution to the problem given. These assignments may required research, for example a teacher may create a WebQuest that ask students to develop a skit of the Burma Road Riot.
What do I need to create a WebQuest?
Along with a web editior, a web server in order to upload the Web page to a server is also needed. WebQuest are already formulated in a particular design so that teachers would only have to add in their own special information.
What are some critical perspectives?
WebQuest is a good way to teach students to research and make their own decision but some part of a teacher's lesson plan should not be place on a Webquest page. Some critical perspectives include:
- A teacher finding the time to create their own WebQuest may be difficult because they often have to adjust to the program , learning new tools and and finding a way to make the assignment related to their students.
- Students will need to have a cetain standard when it comes to their reading ability.
- Hard to create WebQuests for students at a younger age who have a hard time comprehending.
How can I use WebQuests in conjunction with other educational techniques?
WebQuest are used in classrooms with computer access and focuses on critical thinking and analysis skills. Using different types of multimedia can be use to incorporate other educational techniques.
