Introduction

Welcome: The Writing Process
Description: The writing process is made up of five main steps. Each step contains a checklist to ensure success when writing a story. In this webquest, students will learn what points make up each of the five steps and how to properly perform each stage of the writing process to make sure the final paragraph is a work of art.
Grade Level: K-2
Curriculum: English / Language Arts
Writing is an important skill to master. To be able to write is to be able to succeed in all the other subjects in school. We have spent the first half of the year working very hard on reading fluently, and now we are going to focus the second half of the school year on writing properly. Reading and writing go hand in hand and once we get writing under our belts, you will see the connections between the two.
In this webquest you will be working in groups of two or three. Each of you will take a step in the writing process to explore. The five steps are prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. Once each student has a clear understanding of their assigned step, you will share them with each other and put together a presentation to share with the class. We are doing this activity because many students can write words but they do not know how to write to the best of their ability using the five steps of the writing process.
In this webquest your group will be answering the following questions...
1. What does it mean to prewrite?
2. What is a draft?
3. How do you revise a paragraph?
4. How do you edit a paragraph?
5. What does publishing your work mean?
