HEALTH FAD MINI REPORT
Sun addicts
One of the dangerous fads on the Doctor Phil show was about wemen who were addicted to tanning. These ladies are called "sun addicts", and spend to much time out in the sun or in tanning beds. Wemen are more likely to be sun addicts because they want to look slimmer and more healthy. The women on the show said that they did this because it gave them a high and made them feel better about themselves. Some side affectes of over tanning are premature ageing, wrinkles and skin cancer. Tans are caused by harmful ultraviolet radiation (UV) and by having a tan you have already got skin cell damage People who get melanomas end up with large holes on their body after the skin cancer is removed. People who first use a tanning bed before the age of 35 increase their risk for melanoma by 75 percent.
Diet pill- Phentermine
The second health fad discussed on the show was about a girl who took a diet pill called Phentermine. It is a stimulant wich acts as an appetite supresent. The types of people who normally take these types of diet pills are young overweight people. The reason they take the diet pills is because it is a easy and quick way to loose a lot of weight fast without having to diet. The side affects of Phentermine are moodiness, insomnia, depression, irritability, nausea, headaches, dizziness and a rapid heart beat. Even though this pill helped the girl in the show loose 80 pounds she became very moody, angry and could not sleep. It can also lead to long term health problems including cardio vascular issues. Phentermine can not be used if you have heart disease, high blood pressure or pregnant or Breast feeding.

I have learned that different health fads can be good and bad for your body. Some can help you achieve your goal and some can really hurt your body. Companies get people to purchase their health fads by over exaggerating about the fad and making it seem like it is more than it is. That is why you should always do your research. My strategy for a health fad would be a regular routine of 50 situps, 50 push ups, 30 chin ups and a 3-5 km run. This would be the health fad I would take.
