Process
Directions: Create a google document within the assignment in Google Classroom. Answer the following prompts in the google doc. Each letter should have 2-3 pieces of evidence from your clues with clear explanation and analysis.
1. You are a Chinese peasant in the Sui Dynasty. Emperor Yangdi is demanding more canals to be built on the Grand Canal. You have received notice that you are required to be a laboror in this project with no pay. This will take you away from working your fields until the project is complete. You also know that soon you will have to pay rent to your landowner and taxes to the government. Write a letter to Emperor Yangdi explaining your perspective.
2. You are a Chinese merchant in the Tang Dynasty. You are preparing your second trip from your home in the south to the capital, Chang'an. You sell rice from the local farmers that surround your village. You are hoping to save enough money to enable your son to not have to work the field and can instead go to school to pass the imperial exam and become a beaurocrat. Write a letter to the Chinese peasants generations before who were forced to build the Grand Canal detailing your gratitude.
