Description

Clinical Psychologist

a psychologist who diagnoses and treats people with emotional disturbances or personal problems

Counseling Psychologist

a psychologist who usually helps people deal with problems of living; they help people adjust to the challenges of life

Psychiatry

a branch of medicine that deals with mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders

Developmental Psychology

a psychologist who studies the physical, emotional, cognitive, biological, personal, and social changes that occur as an individual matures

Educational Psychology

a psychologist who is concerned with helping students learn; they deal with topics related to intelligence, memory, problem solving, and motivation; they evaluate teaching methods, devise tests, and develop new instructional devices

Community Psychologist



a psychologist who may work in a mental health or social welfare agency operated by the state or local government or by a private organization

Industrial/Organizational Psychology

a psychologist who uses psychological concepts to make the workplace a more satisfying environment for employees and managers

Experimental Psychology

a psychologist who studies sensation, perception, learning, motivation, and emotion in carefully controlled laboratory conditions; they research to understand how humans and animals operate physically and psychologically; they supply information and research used in psychology


There are many subfields within each discipline above, in this assignment you will choose a career in psychology that interests you.  You may be interested in being a counselor, social worker, psychologist, or therapist; whatever your interest is in you will need to research what a professional in this career does every day, where they find work, the educational requirements of the career, salary information, and other interesting facts about the career.   

Task

Your task in this webquest is to research a career in psychology that interests you.  You will need to visit a few different websites to gather information.  When you are done you will know the educational requirements for your chosen career in psychology, you will know what a "day in the life" looks like for a psychologist in your sub-field.  You will have an idea of the career prospects, salary and other information about the psychology career you choose to research.

  2. Start your research on the career.  You will need to gather information about

  • General information on this career
  • What a person in this career does on a daily basis
  • Where a person in this career finds work typically

    1. Click on Education, Explore "Programs of Study and Training" 
    2. Click "psychology"  or "counseling and human services" and then choose the sub-field you are interested in.

3. Find information about your program of study in the following categories:
