Task

1). Lucky Cigarette
Was promoted by an attractive young lady saying "Reach for a lucky instead of a sweet." Posters would have been placed in areas visited by women, this advertisement would have also been illustrated in lady's magazines and displayed on billboards. The wording encouraged women to start smoking as it would suppress their appetite.
This inuendo would have appealed to women's vanity and they would wanted to be notice in a positive way. (The hour glass figure)
'The smoking fad would have been less appealling if people had have been aware of the health damage it causes. Also if the advertisement had been less influential by remove the picture of the attractive young lady.
Smoking causes diseases of the lungs, heart, and other organs. It has also been linked to cancer.

2). The Hollywood Diet(a.k.a. The Grapefruit Diet)
The Grapefruit Diet is was promoted as a fat burning agent and kept it of and sense it was Hollywood Fad then it would of been the "in" thing to do. Well it promoted as the easy way to mange weight control. The price of grapefruit would have gone up to a ridiculous amount because of the demand and a seasonal fruit. The down side to eating grape fruit and drinking its juice is that if you were taking medication, there may be a harmful reaction. The grapefruit diet is a low-carb diet therefore over a long time it could lead to malnutrition and other health problems.

3). Dexatirm
The promo was kicked off by a 30,000,000 dollar campaign The campaign commenced in January 1979. Evidence of the advertisment was listed in the New York Magazine on the 18 Feb 1985. It was promoted as a quick way to lose weight and kept it off. This pill appealed to mainly working people as no exercise is required and this allowed people to use their free time elsewhere. "Its formula changes after phenlypropanolamine is linked to as a increasked risk of stroke in 2000."
If I had to choose I would rather do the "Hollywood Diet." As the side affects from this diet has less of an impact on your health in the short term.
The one I wouldn't want to do is the "Lucky Cigarettes" as this harmful, addictive, expensive and most importantly I wouldn't want to smell.

There was an act passed in the UK in 2010 preventing under 18's using 'Sun Beds.' In 1981 there was (still is) an ad brordcasted in Australia called Slip, Slop, Slap and it was the most succesful heath care ad launched in Australia's history. It's not advised to take if you have preexisting medical (eg: heart, high blood pressure, etc). Drs' advice should be sought prior to starting the 'pill.' |
Conclusion

Credits
I have learnt that companies uses all sorts of ways and techniques to try and get people to buy what their selling. Also that in general most health fads especially if you use them excessivelyare not very good for you and they can either make you really sick and or kill you.
Companies try and get some science or factual evidence and persated people that some dramadic weight lose or something by cocsuming their product.
If I designed a health fad I would says only have sweets and chocolate once a week. Exercise 3-4 days (in week), and walk and eat medium portions at every meal and for dessert a small bowl of fruit or tub of yoghurt.
