Chemical and Physical Changes

Introduction

Welcome

You are on your way to an adventure!!!!!  We are going to talk about physical and chemical changes today.

Let's start with a backround video.

http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/science/matter/changes-of-matter.htm

So, what are physical changes and chemical changes?

A physical change is when matter is changed but can be reversed.

For example: cutting paper

A chemical change can not be reversed and rearranges the structure of molecules.

For example: burning wood

Task

Here is your task. Watch this video:

 http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/science/matter/changes-of-matter.htm

Watch it and take the test.

Record your score.

________         Note, on question 7 if you chose answer b, then you are correct!

    7

Then, you will write a constructed response and answer a series of questions from the websites I have given you.

After that, you will write a eight page book with at least two pictures per page. The rubric is in the evaluation. These are the websites I have given you to use for your book. Also use the websites for a series of questions and fill in the blanks.

Process

So, after you have watched The Magic School Bus video at this link :  http://www.teachertube.com/video/get-ready-set-dough-347712

Use the video to answer this constructed response.

In the video The Magic School Bus, what happens when the baker puts the cake batter in the oven? Use information from your notes and the video to answer. write your response on a pice of paper.

Next, you will answer a series of a questions and fill in the blanks.

You will have a book to write with the following websites and other websites.

A chemical change the ___________________ breaking of bonds between atoms.

Physical changes involve the _____________________________ of molecules.

If you step on a can and crush it, you have forced a ___________________.

Name some examples of chemical changes from the website.

A physical change in a substance does not __________ what the substance is.

In a chemical change where there is a chemical reaction, ________________________________ and energy is either given off or absorbed.

Here is a game on chemical and chemical changes.

Answer the question on a sheet of notebook paper.
