Introduction

Sometimes the best way to learn about history is to put yourself in the shoes of someone who was living at the time.
As we learn about Westward expansion it is important to note that there were many different types of people (some not too different from yourself) you made the dangerous journey across the West.
In this web quest you write journal entries from the perspective of someone traveling west or someone native to the west

Task

Choose one of the following perspectives to write from. Research what it was like for this person during westward expansion. Use the links provided as well as your own research.

You may choose to write from one of the following perspectives

  1. A working class, single, female.
  2. A Chinese Immigrant
  3. A Mexican native
  4. A freed slave
  5. A young, white, single male 

Process

One you have decided what perspective you want to write from begin your research.

Fill out the guided notes I have provided to help you gathered the information necessary to write your journal entry.

Once you have done your research and completed your guided notes you are ready to start your journal entry.

Your Journal Entry must do the following:

1)  Introduce your individual telling your reader who you are, where you come from, and why you are in the west.

2)  Describe your experiences living in the west.  What is your job? What hardships do you encounter, etc?

3)  Tell the reader of your hopes and dreams for the future.  Are you happy that you migrated?  What do you hope to do in the future?  What advice would you give to others coming west or who already live in the west?

NOTE:Your entry must be in complete sentences and have a minimum of three paragraphs. Use what you have found in your research to inform your writing
