Introduction

Today's job market is a very tough one to enter.  A new method of writing a resume has been introduced to this tough market.  This new kind of resume is referred to as a "skill-based resume".  In this type of resume a persons' skills are highlighted rather then their work history.  This is the perfect resume for a student entering the job market for the first time, a person trying to change into a new field, or a person with lots of gaps in their resume.

Task

Before attending the job fair there are some things you must do to prepare:

First you would need to build a resume.

Then you will create a cover letter.

Next we will fill out a basic job application.

You will do some preparation for the interview itself.

And finally we will send a thank you to the person who you interviewed with.

Process

ASK 1:
CREATING A SKILL BASED RESUME:
To begin we are going to visit a web site of someone who teaches writing skill based resumes everyday.  In visiting the site you will find a link to sample skill based resumes.  These will be your samples and guidelines to building your own skill based resume in Microsoft Word.  Save the resume under your file as your name Last name, First name Resume.doc

Because you may have never had a job before some of the categories may be harder for you to fill out.  Remember to think about everything you do in your life that could be an asset to an employer.  Attachment 1 is the skill based resume template you will use to complete your resume.  Please include at least 3 non-related references.
