How Does Gravity Effect Our Everyday Life?

Introduction

Welcome to a day with no gravity. Have you ever wondered how your life would change if there were no gravity? Imagine you are chosen to be an astronaut for a week. You have the exciting opportunity to travel in a space shuttle and explore outerspace. Would you still be able to sleep on a bed? Could you sit at a table to have dinner? Would you still be able to enjoy your favorite pizza? How does gravity affect our everyday lives on Earth?

Task

At the end of this assignment, you will be able to explain the definition of gravity and the effects it has on our everyday lives. You will create a powerpoint presentation to show the various ways gravity effects our lives and how everyday tasks, such as: eating, sleeping, etc., would be different without gravity.

Process

Steps to complete this assignment

1. Brainstorm a list of your everyday activities (sleeping, going to school, walking, etc.) using a Bubble Map.

2. Choose two daily activities to focus on for this assignment.

3. Write a paragraph for each activity to explain how these activities are done on Earth with gravity.

4. Write a paragraph for each activity to explain how these activities would be done in outer space with no gravity.

5. Revise and edit your writing using dictionaries, peer editing or a teacher conference.

6. Use a ChromeBook to publish your information by creating a PowerPoint presentation.

7. Be prepared to present your information orally to the class.

Note: Be creative. Use pictures, diagrams, etc.

Conclusion

Reflection

Discuss with a partner the definition of gravity. Also discuss the information you learned and obtained from this research assignment. Create a Venn Diagram to express the similarities and differences of information found. Use your Science Notebook to explain in writing, if you would rather live on Earth with gravity or in outerspace without gravity. Explain your thinking. Draw a picture to show the differences of being on Earth and being in outer space.
