St Luke's Mr Men and Little Miss Characters

Introduction

Hello my friends!

Navigate your way through this Webquest for a fun learning experience that will have you creating your very own Mr Men or Little Miss character and story.

I know how much we all love the adventures of the Mr Men and Little Miss characters. From crashing and bashing and always bumping into things, to being small enough to fit into mustard containers, the adventures of these wonderful little characters are full of excitement, fun and exploration.

And there is always a moral to the story!

Task

Your task during this webquest is to create your very own Mr Men or Little Miss character and also write a story about him or her.

You might like to base your character on your talents or interests. The story is to include at least one of our school values of Respect, Integrity, Resilience, Responsibility or Empathy. Illustrations must be created by you. Your Mr Men or Little Miss book will require a front cover.  The front cover needs a picture of your Mr Men or Little Miss character, the title of your book and your name as the author.

Process

In order to complete the task, here are the steps you need to take.

You will need to use your Literacy book for brainstorming and writing any notes you want to make while completing this webquest. Any worksheets are also be be glued into your book. This is to be handed in with your final story. Step 1:First you will need to watch the available Mr Men and Little Miss stories on YouTube. If you would like to watch more than the ones provided, you may do so, however you will need to search them out for yourself. You can also read the Mr Men and Little Miss books that are available during Silent Reading time. If you wish to bring books from home please have them named.Mr Happy                      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMYzPBn63IcMr Bump                       https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_BsCrqeLVYLittle Miss Sunshine       https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4lblXQ_qrYLittle Miss Naughty        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkDJpiPwDH4 Step 2:We talked about what we mean when we say "The moral of the story is..."To refresh your memory, go to the website that gives you the definition of what the moral of the story is. Your story needs to have a message or lesson you are trying to communicate which is why it is important that you understand this. Once you have a moral for your story, write it in the book assigned to this webquest. The website is    https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/moral Step 3:Your next step it to create a name for a character and describe his/her physical and behaioural charateristics. Once you have a name you can start to create your character. Take into consideration the original Mr Men and Little Miss character illustrations.  A rough sketch of this must be drawn in your Literacy book.Step 4:Now it is time you start to construct the story for your character. The resources for this task gives you six main elements of a short story. Remember that the Mr Men and Little Miss characters are simple stories, and although they do have flow and structure, you do not want to make your story too complicated. Your story should be able to be read to students from younger grades than your own.  If you do not understand what some of the words mean in this web resource, Google the meaning of the words but putting the word define before the word you are unsure of in the search bar.  Make sure you have covered each of the features of a narrative- Title, Setting, Characters, Problem/Conflict, Conclusion/Moral of the story. Step 5:Once you have filled in the sheet of the six elements of your story it is time to start writing it. This is to be hand written in your Writing book. Once you have a draft you need to have it proof read. This needs to be done by a peer and then me. Once it has been proof read, you can type up the final copy (the good copy must be typed). Step 6:When your story has been written it is now time to create your illustrations. Remember to have an illustration for the front cover also. This can be done in any creative way you can think of, meaning you are not limited to just drawing your illustrations. For example, if you would prefer to paint your illustrations and take photos of them to print, you are encouraged to do so.  To find ideas, you are free to search the web to construct your illustrations.  Step 7:As you finalise your story and illustration, you must now construct your book. The following is one example, however, if you have another way of create a book you are able to do that instead.  Example: 1. Gather the amount of pages needed for your story. 2. Hold in the landscape position and fold in half. 3. Open folded paper. Along the crease staple to create the pages. 4. This has now created your empty book. You can print out your story and stick the appropriate section onto each page. This will needed to be repeated for the illustrations.  Step 8:What can you find out about the author of the Mr Men/Little Miss author, Roger Hargreaves?Present the information you have learnt about him in your own way. Add this to your Literacy book.Step 9:Now that you have completed all the steps and completed the task, you can hand in your finished work. Don't forget to hand in your Literacy and Writing books also.

You will be assessed as one of the following for different criteria:

1. Unsatisfactory2. Satisfactory3. Excellent  Your teacher has an Evaluation Rubric that you will be given to how you will be asssesed.Stick it into your Literacy book so you have access to it at all times.
