Lowell Mill Girls

Introduction

Objective:  Create a profile of a young girl who worked in the Lowell Factory Mill.

Task

In the Process Section, you will work through a PowerPoint lesson, read several letters written by a mill girl, watch a video, and go to several sites to choose a name for your Mill Girl. As you visit each site, be sure to take notes as you work through each section.

After you are finished, you will create a profile of a Mill Girl at a Lowell Factory. 

Process

1.  Make a Tree Map on the back of your worksheet with the following branches:

  • Description of the girls
  • Job description
  • Challenges on the job
  • Living Conditions
  • Emotional Challenges

You may add any other branches that you feel are necessary.
