Introduction

You are the warehouse manager in a tool company. And, as you know, the facilities are too small and the system is outdated. So, let’s to look for a new facilities, new storage system and new forklifts, manual pallet jacks, etc. This is your mission!

Task

Your Job

At the end of this project you will:

  • Know all storage systems and their characteristics.
  • Be able to choose the properly forklifts, manual pallet jacks, etc.
  • Make an oral presentation to the class about your new facilities.

Process

Process

First, you will be assigned to a team.

All teams will do the same work, but with different parameters to have different hypothesis.

You must calculate the parameters with the following data:

  • Number of pallets moved / day = the sum of the 3 last numbers of the ID of the members of the group.
  • Number of different references = the sum of the 2 first numbers of the ID of the members of the group.

With these inputs, you will have to search to define the following results:

  • Square meters you will need to develop the activity.
  • The kind of shelves you will install.
  • The lay out of the plant.
  • The number of shelves you will need.
  • The kind of forklift you will buy.
  • The number of forklift you will need to move all pallets every day.
  • The work flow according the lay out you decided and the number of access.

Finally, you must prepare the presentation where you have to show the following results.

  • Lay out. Justify your distribution.
  • Forklifts chosen.  Justify your decision.
  • Shelves chosen. Justify your decision.
  • Work flow. Explain it in detail.

Evaluation

Participation in this Webquest will result in 3 grades for all members in the group:

1. A grade will be given on the solution about shelves.

2. Another grade will be given on the solution about forklifts and tools
