Body Systems and Functions

Introduction

by Darrell Strachan

This webquest helps students and people understand the human body.  The human body is an extremely complex organism in which nature has mapped out every little molecule.  It consists of individual body systems that are composed of organs each having its own function. The human body is one of a kind and is unable to be duplicated because of its intricacy.

Introduction

Welcome to the human body.  It is a super machine, capable of creating life, tools, and imagination beyond our wildest dreams.  The human body is a work of art that God created in His image.  It continues to amaze each one of us as to what the human body can do.  From creating life to being able to sustain heavy damage, the human body is extremely versatile.  Explore this web quest to learn about the twelve different body systems and how they all work together to make beautiful music together.

Task

You will find the human body systems, their definitions, and the organs involved in each body system.  You will put this in a handout format.

Process

You will look for information about our human body systems.  You will need to find definitions for four-six body systems, the organs involved in the systems, and pictures of the organs.  You will then brainstorm with your classmates, decide what pictures to use, and then make a handout of the body systems you chose.  Also, you will need to tell how the body functions work together to make your body work.

These are websites to look up the information that you will need.  All websites include definitions of the human body systems, pictures of systems and organs, and how the body systems work.  You will need to find the information for each body system you chose and keep track of the information and where you got the information.

This is a list of the systems from which you may choose: nervous, circulatory, respiratory, urinary, digestive, skeletal, reproductive, muscular, excretory, and endocrine.

Evaluation

This is how your handout will be evaluated.  The topics you will be graded on are as follows. Creativity, Appropriateness, Grammar, Design.  I will use this scale for each topic to come up with a grade. It will be out of a possible 40 points

Conclusion

Today, we have looked at our amazing human body systems.  We have discovered what body organs are in each system and we have discovered how the body systems interact with each other. I hope you enjoyed your time exploring the human body.  If you are interested here are three websites that offer movies and quizzes:

Teacher Page

This WebQuest lets students discover their body systems and how each body system affects the other body systems.

Teacher Introduction

In this WebQuest, I have put together several websites for students to look at to make a brochure talking about human body systems.  The students will be able to look at websites that give much information and that also includes games for them to play to give them even more information.  This WebQuest fulfills standards that need to be taught in Health.

Learners

This WebQuest is for students who are in health class.  It is designed for students in grades 9-12.

Standards

The student will understand the role of body systems as related to healthful living.

1 The student will describe the basic human body structures.

2 The student will describe the functions of the human body systems.

3 Explain how health is influenced by the interaction of human body system.

Teacher Process

ThisWebQuest would best be used over a week's time.  The students are asked to identify four-six human body systems.  They are asked to give a definition for each body system and to identify the organs in this system along with pictures.  They will need at least one class period per human body system to gather the information.

Resources

In addition to using the web sites included in this WebQuest, you, the teacher, could also use health books and/or science books.
