Fun With Money

Introduction

This webquest is designed for second grade students. They will learn how to count money in a word problem. There will be videos and activites to help them along their task. We will be relearning about quarters, dimes. nickels, and pennies. By the end they will be able to add and subtract the coin values when visiting a toy store. 

    

Task

You have been saving up your money to by a new toy. Your mom and you arrive to the toy store. She tells you "If you want a toy, then you have to figure out how much it is and if you have enough money to buy it all by yourself."

 

Process

1. First, we are going to watch a video to remember what the coin values are.

 Fill in the right amounts for each coin.

2. Watch this video. Tell me how many quarters are there at the beginning of the video. 

3. Watch this video. Tell me how much larger was the first penny compared to the penny we use now. 

4. Watch this video about the state quarters. Tell me what you favorite state quater is and why. 

5. Below is South Carolina's state quarter. Click on the image and tell me the release date.  


6. Click on ABCya! Then click on "learn". After go through all the sldes, tell me what are the three ways to write out a penny. 

7. You have 8 quaters, 10 dimes, 5 nickels, and 5 pennies. How much money do you have?

8. You see the perfect toy for you! It costs $3.25. Do you have enough?

9. If you think you have enough money, then how much money will you have left over after you bought your toy?

10. Could you buy another toy that costs $2.00. If so how much will you have left over.

Conclusion

You have successfully purchased a toy all on your own! Hopefully after this assignment you feel comfortable with counting coins.
