You are a successful politician looking for ways to change the world. Your next step? Running for President of the United States. In this activity, you will be researching what is required to run for POTUS and creating a campaign platform. You will also be practicing your debating skills by answering tough questions about policies you will make if elected.
Task
While completing this task, you will be using the internet to research Constitutional requirements to run for President. You will also be looking at the campaign platforms of at least 3 current president candidates (both parties, please). Lastly, you will need to read current event news articles from several different sources (BBC, Al Jazeera, Fox News, CNN). This will help with the debate questions.
Process
You will:
1. Research and list all the requirements for running for President in the United States.
2. Create a campaign platform and explain how you will handle the following issues: abortion, immigration, economy, gun control, and education.
3. Answer the following quesitons:
- If elected President, what is the first task you will complete while in office?
- In light of the recent attacks in Paris, if President, would you allow Syrian refugees to enter the U.S.?
- What would you do to help keep terrorism under control?
