Task
Your task is to research either the Battle of Fromelles OR the Battle of Passchendaele (Third Battle of Ypres) to complete our study of the War on the Western Front.
This task will be completed individually, and the answers you compile will be shared with the rest of the class in friday's lesson (20th Nov) so we may have a rounded discussion on these different battles and what occurred there.
You will engage with several different websites to gather information (you may also use your textbooks if you wish) to answer several questions on your particular battle. The questions will be on the following tab 'Process'.
You will compile your answers either on a word-document or in your work-books initially. You will then use this information to create a mini poster (you may use your laptops or you may do this in a page in your books) on your chosen battle.
Please read the instructions carefully!
Process
TASK: RESEARCH
Firstly, select either the BATTLE OF FROMELLES or the BATTLE OF PASSCHENDAELE.
First you must answer the following questions in relation to your chosen battle in full sentences. Use the websites below the subheading to find your answers.
1. When was the battle? (Include when it started and ended)
2. Where was the battle?
3. Who was involved in the battle? (Which countries were involved, and whose 'offensive' was it? I.e. Who started the battle?)
4. What happened in the battle? (List key events)
5. Why did the battle occur? (What was the goal of the battle?)
As well as:
1. In what ways were ANZACS involved in this battle? Did they play a significant/major role?
2. Why is this battle significant?
3. Any interesting facts about this battle?
Note: Use these websites to assist you in gathering your answers to these questions above. Only click on the websites for your chosen battle!

Evaluation
Visual representation: Spider-chart
If you are up to this stage, you have completed the questions and researched your chosen battle in depth.
As part of your final task, you are to create a spider chart diagram displaying this information (5W's and other questions on previous 'Process' tab).

Imagine you are going to present this chart to other classes, informing them of your particular battle. You may do this in your workbooks, use microsoft word, or bubbl.us if you wish. If you completed your notes with a partner, sharing a laptop, then you are able to complete your spider chart with your partner also.
You must include 2 images in your spider chart to support your information.
Some groups will be called upon to display their spider charts to the rest of the class in friday's lesson. All student tasks will be checked by the teacher in friday's lesson.
The key part of this task, is to SUMMARISE the important and relevant points regarding the battle. Your information will help your class-mates to fill in the table (in the work booklet distributed to you on 11th Nov titled 'Australians on the battlefields of the Western Front') as we will be sharing these in friday's lesson on the 20th November.
Be creative!
Conclusion
Your task will be checked by your teacher throughout the lesson. On friday's lesson you will have roughly 20 minutes to finish up your task, before your teacher will check the task has been completed to a satisfactory standard.
We will then use this information to fill out the table as a class on the Battle of Fromelles and Battle of Passchendaele. We will have a discussion about each of these battles before moving on to other theatres of war.
Good luck!
