Learning Geometric Shapes!

Introduction

In this webquest, we will learn how to recognize geometric shapes, such as squares, rectangles, triangles, circles, and etc. We will also be able to count the number of angles, if any, each geometric shape has.

Task

By the end of this webquest, you will be able to efficiently recognize and recall numerous geometric shapes by memory and understanding. You will be able to identify, read, and write the names of different shapes by memory as well as be able to count how many angles and faces they have.

Process

Please follow go in order and do not skip around. Click on each link and answer the questions that go along with each.

After watching the video answer the questions below:

1. What makes a shape a shape?

2. What is an angle?

3. What makes a shape a square?

4. What is a quadrilateral?

The link below contains a catchy song that will help you learn all about quadrilaterals. Once you have watched the video, answer the questions.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rh93AfCyOik

1. How many sides does a quadrilateral have?

2. How many angles?

3. Are the oposite sides the same length?

Visit the website and review the information given, then answer the question.

1. List each type of triangle that the website discusses and give a brief discription of each.

Go to this website and answer the questions till you have answered ten of them correctly them move on to the next.

1. Color all quadrilateral red.

2. Color all the triangles blue.

Go to the website, play the game and then write what five shapes that you saw!

Evaluation

Below is the rubric in which I will be using to grade your webquests. Please look over the document to see what type of score you will receive. Try hard on this assignment because we will be doing one similar in class for a test grade!

Webquest: Learning Geometric Shapes Rubric

Points Awarded:

Grammar:

Completion:

Accuracy:

4

I had no errors, and correctly punctuated

I completed all of my work and turned it in.

I answered all of the questions correctly

3

I had a few errors and some correct punctuation

I completed most of my work and turned it in.

I answered most of the questions correctly

2

I had a lot of errors and little punctuation

I completed some of my work and turned it in.

I answered some of the questions correctly

1

Mainly errors and no punctuation

I hardly had any work and turned it in.

I hardly answered any of the questions correctly

Possible 12 points

Total:   _________/12 points

Conclusion

Now you are all fluently knowledged with geometric shapes. You know how to count the sides of a shape. Since you know how to count the sides, then you are able to see where two sides meet to form an agle, which helps you count the angles. You also learned that angles are also called corners. Since you know all of this information, you are now able to name the shapes, as well as, understand how to name them. For addictional practice and homework, please print out the pages I have linked and complete them and bring the to class tomorrow.

1. Please visit the website and scroll down until you see the worksheet called "Identify 2D Shapes 2 Sheet 2 Answers" , print the worksheet and follow the directions to complete the worksheet.
