Gullah Culture

Introduction

In this Webquest we will be discussing the Gullah’s way off of life. The Gullah people came to the coast of South Carolina as African slaves.  The Gullah culture is known for their food, story-telling, music, crafts using sweet grass, farming rice and cotton, and fishing techniques.

Process

After reading the link listed, I need you to work in your assigned buddy group to discuss how your day would be as a Gullah child before the Civil War. I want a paper written on your thoughts of how and what would your day be like. Remember to answer these questions…

1)    Where did you all come from?

2)    Where do you all live now?

3)    What do your parents do?

4)    What is the language you speak?

5)    What traditions has been passed down to you all?

6)    What crops are grown by your family?

7)    What types of food do you eat?

8)    What are some chores you have?

9)    What things do you make?

10)   What do you do with the things you make?

Evaluation

I will be looking for good complete sentences in the final paper. I will also be walking around the room to make sure everyone is talking and giving ideas on what to write.

I will give 50 points for participation and 50 points for the group paper. 

Conclusion

After this paper we should know the culture of the Gullah people and there heritage to South Carolina.
