ADHD

Introduction

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a very controversial but increasingly prevalent learning disability and behavioral disorder. As one of the around 6.4 million in the US that have ADHD, I have experienced firsthand the many facets of this disorder. I want people to be able to separate myth from fact and have a better understanding of what ADHD is like. With October being ADHD Awareness Month, I thought this would be a great time to spread awareness and correct information to make lives better for all those living with ADHD.

Task

Objectives:

-understand what causes ADHD

-be able to separate the myths and stigma from fact

-have a better idea of what ADHD is like

Process

These gives the CDC’s and the NIMH’s guidelines of what ADHD is, what causes it, and what treatment options are available. After years of convoluted recognition as a learning disability and behavioral disorder, the CDC has put out clear guidelines and facts about the disorder. Despite this info, the causes of ADHD are still debated and very little is known what exactly causes it:

*These discuss some of the many myths and misconceptions about ADHD. I have heard many of these firsthand in having ADHD. There have been countless times that I’ve been accused of having a fake condition and that I have an unfair advantage when taking medicine, among other things. Whenever I try to explain, they either don’t listen or don’t care. It’s even more frustrating when people try to say that everyone has it because it trivializes what people with ADHD have to go through on a daily basis:

*These links help show what ADHD is like to someone who doesn’t have it. While these aren’t exactly 100% accurate of what it’s like, it can give an idea of what someone with ADHD goes through. I can attest to the simulations being very similar to my own condition:

Conclusion

ADHD is a real issue in my life and in the lives of countless others. Even in trying to complete this webquest I struggled. A fair share of people think I'm living a lie in saying I have ADHD. I can only imagine what the rest of the around 6.4 million that have ADHD have to go through. WIth this Webquest, I hope you learned more about ADHD and have a better idea of what it really is. Please take this information and use it. Thank you.
