Parkinson's Disease

Introduction

Trembling of your hands unable to pick up a glass of water, slow in movement, stiffness in limbs and unable to keep your balance, all of these getting progressively worse and hindering the ability to go about simple daily tasks that seem so simple for a common person without this disease or disability. There is no cure and that the cause of it is unknown but there are treatments that help slow down the disease. If you haven’t guest it by now this disability is Parkinson’s disease, the same disability that actor Michael J. Fox suffers from. The website listed is a great explanation of an overview of Parkinson’s http://www.pdf.org/about_pd

Task

What is it like and how to communicate with someone with Parkinson's?

So it might be difficult to deal with someone with Parkinson's. For many different reasons from trying to shake there hand and for people to give stares to people with the ugly disease because they have a hard time eating a salad in public with fork. An interesting part of the next article is the info on cognitive issues people with Parkinson's deal with.

Is there a cure?

Unfortunally, there is not a cure but there are many methods to slow down the progression of the Disease. Some of those methods are done with medications and surgerys listed on a Mayo Clinic site.

Conclusion

To conclude it is a very difficult disease to deal with. I wanted to talk about a disease such as this because it effects many people and it is a disease that really can happen to anyone which I felt was a big piece in this weeks lecture that it disabilty can happen to anyone no matter skin coler, gender, nationality or anything. To conclude with two links one going to Micheal J Fox's Foundation page and about the reasearch this foundation is doing.

The other link going to a story of a man with Parkinson's that gives a good overall look at the other links and info put in the webquest.

So this a little about Parkinson's, hopefully knowledge was pasted about the disease and that one day it is easier for people to live their daily lives and help function as "normal" as possible.
