The Conquest of Mexico

Introduction

Hello Sixth graders! 

Today we learn about the Conquest of Mexico, and you're going to be the explorer! To get started, click on the link that says "Task". Have fun, and good luck!

Some Background for you: 

By the early 1500’s the Aztec and the Incan peoples had built two huge empires in the Western Hemisphere, which Columbus never knew about since he stayed on the islands of th eCaribbean Sea. Soon the desire for riches and adventure led Spanish explores to explore the mainland.  During these expeditions, the Spaniards conquered the Indian groups, thus being named conquistadors. Conquistador comes from the Spanish word “to conquer”. 

Task

Your Task is to find the answers to the following questions in your packet. Click 'Process' to find hints and websites.

What was his dream? What was he chosen to do?

From this article, click the link on the right hand side that reads Tenochtitlan: History of Aztec Capital. Under 'The fall fo Tenochtitlan" find answers to how many were allied with Cortez, and three things that ensured victory to teh Spaniards.
