Task

As members of a travel agency, you have been asked to "sell a trip" to ancient Egypt. Not only do you want to land this big account, but you will prove ancient Egypt to be the very best destination to travel.

Each group member will be responsible for a section of a PowerPoint travel brochure.

Process

To get familiar with Ancient Egypt you will first:egypt Cheops pyramid and sphinx

  • Play Senet with a partner.  See your teacher for hand out.

Then in your assigned tour group you will visit the Ancient Egypt Facts sites (3). Within your group, each member will develop an area of expertise. Each member of your group will have to decide on and select an area in which he/she would like to be an expert from among the following topics:

  • Pharoahs
  • Daily life/Families
  • Culture
  • Geography
  • Religion
  • Monuments
  • Mummies
  • History
  • Rosetta Stone
  • Book of the Dead

Once each team member has chosen his or her's area to study and become the expert on, you will need to visit the Ancient Egypt Facts sites and research your chosen topic.  Use at least 3 different sites.  Here are some:

You will take notes and write down facts about your topic.  You must keep track of the site you visit and give credit to it!  Please use the Travel Agent to Ancient Egypt fact sheet.  Your teacher will give this to you.

Project

Once you have completed your thorough investigation of the sites and have your written notes, you are to combine your knowledge with that of the rest of your group. Use PowerPoint on Office 365 to create a multimedia travel brochure promoting ancient Egypt. Your presentation should have at least 14 slides.

Please include the following:

√  A convincing opening

√  Each “expert” should contribute no less than three slides on his or her own special area.

• Choose your words and images carefully. You must have at least 2 images on every slide. You have a very limited opportunity to be convincing!

√  An ending that tries to “clinch” the deal. Answer the following question—why is ancient Egypt so special that first-time tourists should make a major effort to see it?

√  A Works Cited slide (Remember to cite your sources, that includes non-clipart images!)

Senet

Senet was a game played by the pharaohs.  Over 40 of these games have been found in the tombs.  One was found in King Tut’s tomb.  This game was played on a game board.  Each player needs five game markers (pennies/nickels will work at home).  The object of the game is to get each marker from square 1 through square 30 in order, before your opponent does.  The game uses four sticks as dice.  Each stick had one flat side (we will color one side with a marker to show which side is “flat”).   You toss the sticks.  You may move one of your 5 markers the number of spaces according to how many flat sides of the sticks point up.  If you land on your opponent, this sends his piece back to start (#1).  Five spaces on the board have special symbols.  They mean:

  • Bird-all pieces stop on this square, no matter what you roll!
  • Two waving lines-you must move back to the anhk
  • Three circles-you must roll exactly 3 to leave
  • Eye of Horus-you must roll exactly 2 to leave
