Introduction
Generalize place value understanding for multi-digit whole numbers.
CCSS.Math.Content.4.NBT.A.1
Recognize that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right. For example, recognize that 700 ÷ 70 = 10 by applying concepts of place value and division.
This lesson is intended to demonstrate and clarify patterns that exist within mathematics. Naturally occurring patterns such as those within place value charts can help students to gain conceptual understanding of numbers and the way that they work. By understanding place value and relations from one place value to another, students will have a fuller clearer understanding of the amount that each number represents.
