Introduction

One thing in life that counts for everybody is that you are part of a family. No matter how well you know your relatives, you are all part of a family and have the same background. In this webquest you are going to find out everything about your family and make a short clip about everything you've found out.

Task
You are going to make a short movie about either your mother's or father's side of the family.
Which things should be included in your family broadcast:
1. Introduction in which you introduce yourself and in which you tell why you decided to some research into your background and why you chose that particular side of the family.
2. Find out the meaning of your last name, if there is any of course.
3. Interview a family member; your mother/father/grandfather/grandmother/great-grandmother/great-grandfather. They are allowed to answer in Dutch but you have to ask all the questions in English.
4. Try to find out as much as possible about your ancestors (where they lived, how many children they had, their profession etc.). Try to go back at least 3 generations (so up until your grandparents' parents) and tell us about them
5. End by telling what you've learned, found interesting, didn't know.....
It would, of course, be great if you could show where your ancestors lived (so their family home), but you can also use pictures in your clip. Use your imagination!!
The clip has to last at least 5 minutes and should be handed in via YouTube. You can read underneath how you are supposed to do this. The movie will only be watched by your teacher!!
Handing in Videos on Youtube
For some assignments you have to create a video and hand it in on Youtube. This handout will explain which steps you have to follow to upload your video.
Step 1 Create a Google account.
If you already have a Google account (which you have when you are Gmail user), you can use that specific account to log in (aanmelden) on your own Youtube-account .
That means that you’ll only need to be signed in to continue with step 2.
If you’re not in the possession of an account, you’ll have to create one. Go to Youtube, click on “aanmelden “ in the top-right corner of your screen. Then click “een account maken” also in top-right corner of your screen. Fill in all the necessary boxes, but make sure you really want to leave Google “mag mijn accountgegevens gebruiken om +1’s voor inhoud en advertenties.…” ticked. It might be wise to leave that box unticked.
Step 2 Upload your video.
In your Youtube homepage you’ll see a small box with your username in the top-right corner of the screen, which will open a rolldown menu when clicked upon. To upload choose the button “videobeheer”, which will take you to a new screen on which you can find the upload-button on the top-left corner of the page. Click it and follow the instructions.
Step 3 Make it private!
Whenever you hand in a video for an assignment for English you are obliged (verplicht) to set the video to “private” so no strangers have the possibility to see the video. This is obliged in order to protect you and other pupils in the video.
You can do this by clicking the box directly underneath “privacyinstellingen” and by setting it to “private”
Step 4 Invite your teachers
When you uploaded your video you can invite people by using the dropbox below your username (top-right corner) to go to the “videobeheer”-section, where you can find your videos. Click on the “bewerken”-button next to the video you want to share and choose “informatie en instellingen”. Now underneath the box “private” you can add email-addresses of your teacher.

Evaluation
Your teacher will let you know if you've finished the assignment sufficiently or not and mark it.
The most important thing is that you stick to the assignment and speak English!!
